And thats why Crystal doesn't do sports...

I agreed to do softball this season at Cedar Road for their "Second; Thursday/Friday team" (they didn't want to say "The kids who can't play all that well"... but don't worry, we know who we are and most of us are ok with it!

Anyway, I started the practice out at my parent's house tonight hitting some balls back and forth with my dad while my brother, Josh, played catcher. All was going really well (about 25 minutes in) until I actually hit a good one and sent it flying over the fence into the neighbors yard... where children were playing... thankfully no one was hurt.

So, then comes the REAL practice... It feels like middle/high school gym all over again... feeling all self-conscious because there are...(get this....) BOYS! And not to mention the fact that YOU KNOW that you are on the Thursday/Friday team for a reason.... and team number 1 is basically pro... ok so semi-pro? Anyway, thankfully Alisha is on my team (WHEW!... we travel in packs you know) and her buddy Brandy... Boy were we nervous to bat! I didn't catch ONE ball... its amazing how when you are at home playing catch that you can actually catch many of the balls flying at you, but then you get into the softball setting and BAM! You run scared because even though the same types of balls are coming at you, you still seem to be scared...

Then it was my turn to bat... I grabbed the heaviest bat and Travis made sure I knew, and of course me thinking Oh I warmed up at my parent's house I'll be ok... HA! Swing and a miss! Swing and a miss! Swing and a miss!... you get my point. Slowly but surely I wanted to collapse within myself with what spirit and excitement I had left about the game and walk off the field... but I stayed strong and hit a couple balls over the pitcher's (Travis) head. The end of practice COULD NOT come fast enough and to top it off, we have our FIRST game THIS FRIDAY! And I was nervous for practice...

  1. Ha, no worries. I am not the best at sports that require hand eye coordination. Besides running, I am not very athletic. Hope all is going well.
