Oh what a brave soul....

Yesterday marked the first day of May. It was a great day... low in ratio at work, warm(er) outside, and it was sunny! Then, I had my first Softball game.

The first half of the first game I did not play. I stepped in for Alisha in the outfield mid-way through and let me just say, New Life scored 10 runs two innings in a row. The first game was over before we even reached 7 innings...

The second game though, I played outfield again. Then, it was my turn to bat. I swung.... miss. I swung again and POW! I hit that sucker... not too far but I did it and was almost to first... the ball made it there before me. I did not catch a ball, but I was able to get some grounders and I even hit the ball two more times... The second hit, I made it onto first and just as I got there the first baseman says to me, "Um, it's done... your guy got out." I couldn't believe it. I finally made a good hit, a good run, and that was the end of the inning! Ah, well, I suppose running like a maniac, arms out to the side, fingers spread wide (surprised I even hit it as hard as I did) was just too much celebration on the field.

We were tied for the second game for a long while, then the other team (again) scored 10 runs the last inning... we got 3-4 but it didn't help. All in all, I had fun and I think most everyone else did as well!

When we got home last night, it was about 11 or later (way past my bedtime). I had recorded a "Law and Order: SVU" that I wanted to watch from Tuesday so I turned it on. Maybe 10 minutes in Brandon yells over to me from the computer, "My parent's house got broken into." After asking him about details that he was yet unaware of, we got ourselves ready and drove to their house... basically, they live 1-2 blocks over in a different neighborhood across the street.

The police were there when we arrived and he had the black dust from fingerprinting almost everywhere. The kitchen and bedroom were ransacked (bedroom was way worse). They broke in through a window (I guess using a brick) and then broke the second door (assuming they kicked it in) and made it into the actual house. The odd thing is, nothing "important" was taken. No laptops, no camera, and the bedroom window (second floor mind you) was open and the screen was out, like my in-laws had scared the guy(s) away, or girl(s) a the case may be, and they jumped from the second story window...

After helping clean for about a half hour-hour (it was late I don't do well with time after 9... ha!) We left and came home. I was yet unable to go to sleep, a little shaken for his parents, so I turned the law and order episode back on and was becoming quite cozy when all of the sudden I see a figure out of the corner of my eye. It was greyish and had a long TAIL!

A MOUSE!

It ran into our bedroom (thankfully I had gotten all things unnecessary off the floor the night prior and was able to spot him quickly). He was hiding behind a stacked cubby unit I was able to get from work! I called brandon on his phone (yes he was in the other room) and oh so quietly said, "I need two plastic solo cups. I found the mouse and its going to die." He brought them in so quietly and when I reached over, my shadow scared the mouse and he RAN! I hurried to the bed and Brandon started to move a couple boxes we had stored under there to see if the mouse was around... we lost him.

Brandon picked up his nightstand... not there. Then he picked up my nightstand... bingo! As I am practically laying on the floor trying to see under the bed and what Brandon was revealing, the mouse took off and headed right to me. I screamed and jumped up and was about to catch that sucker when he darted again. Behind the desk... behind the dresser... oh yes! Brandon got the live trap set up in the corner... he's going, he's going... he dodged! Out under our door, and he even hesitated by the trap before making a run for the door!

I tell ya, I thought my mom was crazy on Wednesaday when she told me he walked right past my feet into the entryway. I didn't hear or see him, but when she came running at me I got the "pit of the stomach" feel and opened a cupboard to see munched chocolate chips and mouse poo... ick!

Then Thursday I found more mouse poo and decided that this little guy (sorry if you have a love for all things breathing) was going to die. I will update you when that day comes. As for now, he's being hunted...

It was a night of "brave souls"... thats for sure.
