Changed

Do people not realize that when a woman
is only 2-3 months (sometimes a few moths more)
along, that the only outside thing REALLY
happening, is that she can't suck the pudge in
anymore that she used to? Do you know how
many people have patted my tummy and said,
"Oh, you're starting to get your pooch already!"
I'M NOT thank you very much! Sure I can't button
my pants anymore, but the button and buttonhole
are still pretty darn close to touching! I even
had a lady come up to me at church, pat my tummy,
and then she said to me, "Wow, you look like you
are further along than what you are telling people!"
Brandon and I both about smacked her. I know
she wasn't trying to be mean, but come on, seriously?
My cousin Neil, I haven't seen him all summer
he's been in Alaska-hunted and killed a bear!!-
was hanging out with his sister when I went to meet up with her,
I hugged him and noticed that his arm muscles
looked my bigger these days so I said to him:
C:Neil, you're looking bigger!
(As I squeezed his arms)
N: Hey, so are you!
1.) I found this funny, but couldn't help
but give him a hard time about it,
because he's family and was making
a joke.
2.) I think he thought i actually felt bad about
his comment, so me giving him a hard time
about it made him feel bad for being mean
even though i didn't actually find it offensive.

But I mean seriously people, if I were noticing
someone gaining weight i wouldn't go up to them and
pat their tummy and so, "Oh, you're getting a little pooch!"
I think its just plain rude. Pregnant or not, its rude.

I'll step off my soapbox now... here are a couple
of things I have learned about pregnancy lately.
1.) Don't drink milk too fast.... it comes back up faster.
2.) Milk is the greatest thing I have ever thrown up...
a.) It was smooth, and didn't hurt
b.) It was still cold and not curdled.
3.) My baby apparently doesn't like poppyseed muffins as
it's first meal in the morning.

Now that I have probably grossed everyone out,
I have a question or ten.

1.) When can I start registering for baby stuff?!
2.) How fast do babies generally grow out of newborn, size 1,2,3
diapers?
3.) Is there anything I should be buying ahead of time or
preparing ahead of time (besides obvious nesting routines)?
4.) Brandon and I are (of course) worried about finances,
does anyone have any saving tips that may be helpful?

I guess that wasn't exactly 1 or 10 questions, but rather
in-between. That's all I got for now (i forgot what
else I wanted to write about...)

  1. Hey Crystal ~ It's Lauren Morris....

So to answer some of your questions.
    1) Usually you register after you find out the sex, so around 5 months.
    2) Depending on how big your baby is at birth will determine how fast they grow out of the diapers....Swaddlers are the best (especially Swaddlers Sensitive). The newborn goes up to 10 lbs and is great for when you first bring them home...it doesn't leak as much. Lindsay is 16 months old and still in size 3. You won't know how fast they grow out of diapers until they start growing :(
    3) You want a few big items, like a swing or bouncer, pack 'n play for when they go to Grandma's. Car seat for sure! and stroller! LOTS of burp cloths and bibbs.
    4) Once Upon a Child has lightly used baby items, and they even have inexpensive cribs. Also garage sales are a great place to get clothes and toys! And friends that already have babies that will let you borrow things.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Congrats again!!!

  2. Crystal! Congrats! Do you ever stop and think "I can't believe I'm old enough to be a mom" I think that everyday! But it's great! I thought I'd answer your questions, because I had all the same ones. Ok registering...do it when you want. It's easier when you find out the sex, if you are, but do it when you feel like it. However, know that stores like Target rotate their merch so some stuff may clearance out if you do it to soon. And don't expect to get a lot off your registry. Sad, I know. But people love buying baby stuff so they buy what they think is cute, not necessarily what you need. But have fun when you do it, walk around and take your time. 2. At the hospital they put them in size 1 diapers and just fold down the top so they don't touch the umbilical cord, which I was surprised at. If your baby is pretty average, they'll fit in size one diapers pretty quick, but it's nice to have the newborn ones to start. Pampers are really soft, but huggies are also, and they're umbilical cord cutout is lower. I always had to fold down the newborn pampers. We stocked up on diapers for the whole 9 months before, you'll start getting coupons and watch for sales. Target gives coupons that you can double with manufactures coupons. I got lots of size one and two because they are in those for a while and some size three. As far as newborn clothes, I have no idea. Lucy is 6 weeks and fits perfectly in Carters Newborn, but is too big for Gerber newborn and Circo (from Target) newborn is still a bit big. 3. Start watching for sales on big stuff that you know you'll need and don't think people will buy for you. Like a car seat/stroller (I highly recommend the travel system kind! MUST HAVE) Babys R Us has sales and coupons and you can also check online. Don't buy too many clothes ahead of time b/c that's what people buy you most of. A crib and changing table. Check online, I found a great changing table online. Other than that, check clearance items, and get what you can ahead of time. Jeff and I haven't bought diapers yet, and won't have to for at least another month. It's been really nice! As far as money goes, I hear ya! I'm staying home (which I love) but it's hard living on a teacher's salary. Try and make an "after baby" budget and live on that as much as possible and save any extra you can. Medical bills can get pretty crazy, even with insurance, so it's nice to have some saved up. Put some money away so the two of you can go do something fun before baby comes. Even if it's just dinner and a movie, you'll need that! My biggest advice for you right now: enjoy every second of it! It's hard not to spend your time day dreaming about what it will be like when baby comes, but do your best to enjoy the now. (people still keep telling me that) Congrats again! I can't wait to hear more!

P.S. I have tons of baby stuff so let me know if you need anything!
